Where are the MIDs?

I have been keeping an eye on the Ric website for which distributors have received shipments of 4003 basses. I don't think I have seen a Midnight Blue bass listed for months now! Since that is what I am lusting for and have on order - would it be likely they will do batches of MID together? I hope they're not having trouble with MID again!

Benjamin, it's very likely that to keep production running smoothly as possible that specific finishes are scheduled to be sprayed in batches.

As Joey says, you may just need to be patient. I hear that the newer MIDs are spectacular!
Enjoy this for now:

Yes. The 4003FL came stock with Rick rounds, which I knew would chew up the fingerboard, so I thought I'd give the DR coated rounds a try. They sounded and felt great (and I thought they looked great too), but after a week or so, they started working away at the fingerboard varnish, so off they came as well.
That bass sounds fantastic with rounds, but unless I elect to remove the fingerboard varnish, it's La Bella Deep Talkin' flats from now on.

The mids are between the highs and the lows, though some amps don't have mid knobs, so I understand your confusion

Is that way early MusicMan Stingrays did not come in Mid Blue? Only Treble Green and Black Bass as I recall...

Hahaha good one re: mids hehehe.
Do love the 8 stringer there. The older MID looks nice, would be happy with that. I am not a fan of AzureGlo. It would probably be sacriledge to refin a 4001 or early 4003 in a more modern MID. Either way, obtaining a newer MID of the correct hue and achieving a proper finish would ne night on impossible I imagine.

I found a new 4003 MID at Sam Ash in Manhattan at the begining of November.
This bass plays better than any Rickenbacker bass I have owned (1993 4003 FG, 1997 4003s5 JG both sold).
It is also the best sounding Rickenbacker I have owned. This bass is MUCH punchier that the last two I have owned.

Your 4003 looks beautiful, Mark. Enjoy it!
I usually don't like blue guitars, but most of the variations of Midnight Blue as well as the Trans Blue and Blue Burst RIC has done are exceptions to me.
