620 Help/Advice Needed

Hi there,

I've just bought the above (new) and when trying to play it through my Vox VT30 I'm getting an incredible amount of feedback/hum(?). It's fairly constant without playing, but as soon as I cover and deaden all the strings it goes. Turning the Gain down on the amp also helps a little. When I cycle through the 'amp models' built in on the presets, as I get around to more metal/high gain/high overdrive models, the feedback/hum increases tremendously along with the volume of the guitar. If I switch to manual mode - basically a normal amp - the hum/feedback is there in the backround, but no-where near as noticable.

If I turn the guitar away from the amp, the noise goes, but then starts to creep back again.

Amps' OK as it doesn't happen at all with my Strat or LP.

I'm new to this guitar, so maybe it's something simple (like me) that I'm missing.

Any help appreciated and I apologise if I'm using the wrong forum.

Cheers,

You may either have a microphonic pickup or some sort of a grounding problem.

Hi, Andy,

Welcome! I also have a 620 but it does nothing like you describe. I'm no expert but if the humming is the same with either or both pickups selected then maybe it's a wiring/grounding problem. Your post might get more immediate attention over in the technical "Vibrola" section of the forum. Perhaps a moderator can move it over there or it's also OK to double post in this case. Good luck with that. :)

If the hum is not excessively loud it most likely is just single coil hum.
