4001 sensitivity to different gauge strings?

Hi all

I currently have my '79 4001 set up for Rick brand strings (45 65 75 105) but the only sets that are close that I could get at short notice are 45 65 80/85 105. I know the necks were not as strong back then, but I am not aware of how sensitive they are to tension changes.

If I put 45 65 85 105, does anyone think I would have any problems? (I don't want to try do the set-up myself and I can't get anyone to do it for a week or two, but I want new strings for a gig tomorrow night).

Any thoughts?

Cheers

You and your bass will be fine. :)

Thanks for your input.

With stories I hear about old Ricky necks, I always want to err on the side of caution.

Matt, most of the problems with 4001 necks were due to improper truss rod adjustments. I agree with Jeff, your bass should be fine. If you do have any problems, we'll be here to help you take care of it!

OK, so it isn't that old! but it is older then me by 13 months... so it is all relative.

You're only as young as the bass you feel?
I think I'll give up on justifying age related comments now.
