Anyone remember this from the British boys' magazine "The Eagle", mid-1964?
It's a (no doubt non-authorized) "cutaway" of an R-M 1997 with a typical headline of the day:
Full-sized one
here, so you can read the not too accurate copy. Note also the 4000-shaped electric guitar "D" with 4 pickups (!!!), a precursor to the 480...

I never saw that before Paul. It's interesting look into the musings (of the time period in question) about Rickenbacker instruments though.

Wow - there's a blast from the past! I do have to ask, though - are you sure that's from the Eagle? I was an avid Eagle reader back in those days (it was delivered, once a week, with the morning paper), and I have no recollection of articles like that. It was all Dan Dare, and other comic strips.
Time dulls the memory, however, and I may very well be 'mis-remembering'...

Yep, everybody seems to remember Dan Dare, but the cutaways were a standard feature of nearly every issue from April, 1950 through April,1969.
Here's my source material:

This book is a real trip down memory lane...

My apologies for doubting you - I have no recollection of the cutaway drawings at all... those brain cells are clearly long gone.
The Eagle was the only comic my dad would let me have - I had to rely on schoolfriends to get a look at the Beano...
