here's a catalogue excerpt from ezzy's music shop, van buren, maine from mid to late '70s. just like RIC they don't put a date on their cats. to keep the cat small they just put a few items from each manufacturer, but could get anything you wanted and duty free to canada. interesting to note the case is extra even though it come shipped in the case from the factory !!! (oh, no thanx, i don't want the case...i just want to drag it down the street by the headstock behind me on my bicycle !)

In the '70's, F*nd*r used to charge extra for their natural finish.

Many shops do that. It's a way to make the price appear lower until you actually have to pay. Or if you opt out (I can't imagine) then they can sell something they didn't have to pay for.

now this is an interesting point ! when RIC makes a suggested list price of the instrument, this is probably only just the guitar itself and not the case included ??? anyone know this for a fact ? or is the case included in said suggested list ? i do see in my '79 price list that the instrument and cases are itemized separately...90.00 for the case and 665.00 for a 4001 ! nahhh ! i'll just drag mine down the street...it's easier that way !!!!! of course it'll look like an explorer by the time you get home ! lol.

In the 70's, Mapleglo WAS an extra charge color, as there was a fairly limited number of instruments suitable to be sprayed clear. The scarcity and selection process was deemed by the factory to be worth some extra money, as well as a tool to deter a certain number of people to get other colors!

Cases were NOT supplied by default then; this is partly because some people chose to order with no case, and RIC offered both a standard and deluxe models of the case. So the instrument was one price, and then you added the case of your choice on top, or no case, as most international customers did.

Natural was a matte finish, different from Mapleglo and offered on some models.
