Anyone have a good experience with an online vendor? and/or tips on how to save money, or what to expect to pay.
We're looking at creating a basic black t-shirt with printing on both sides. Any advice appreciated.

Another alternative is to find a sporting goods shop in your area that makes uniforms etc. for teams. They can make up any design tee-shirt you like and unlike mail-order/on-line sellers -- you can go and physically inspect the artwork, inspect the shirt's quality, and make changes etc before they put the shirts into print.

I've used these guys:
http://www.discmakers.com/merch/products/CustomTees.asp
Also, if you need just a few for the band,
http://www.CafePress.com where the RRF sells its wares does nice work, they are quick and shirt quality good.
Otherwise, best to just find a local shop in your area if you want shirts to sell at shows, etc.
Best,
T.

Keep looking until you find someone that will print them for $5 a shirt or less, although that may be tough since you want a two-sided shirt. The more you order, the cheaper it will be per shirt.
Some places may add additional fees such as screen set-up, artwork clean-up, etc.
I agree that your best bet is finding someone local.

I've had plenty of t-shirts printed in the past over a number of years, and what we learnt is that it's really important to check out the quality of both the T-shirts and the print before going ahead.
Some places are just back-yard set-ups with a cheap laser printers, and a rubbish result, while others just use fall-apart shirts that won't last a single wash.
Cheap is not necessarily good if you want more than one wear out of a shirt, so like others have said, I'd go local rather than saving money over the net.

Thinking out loud...for the first run, probably best to find local sporting goods uniform place. They would probably have best price on small run. Did find a place in Jersey with reasonable prices, and huge selection but finding time right now to get out there is tough
Good ideas all

If you can, so for 100% cotton shirts and silk screening. They'll last much longer. Stay away from heat transfers or laser printing. One wash and that **** is gone.

I did find a local vendor. for a small run we're looking at $6.25 a shirt, two color on black 100% cotton pre-shrunk shirts. One sided, silkscreen. Not bad

Sounds good, Marc.
Many years ago when I worked at a sporting goods store that did team uniforms (the shirts werre out-sourced (silk screen) locally, but we did (heat transfer) the hats in-house), we found that certain brands of shirts shrank significantly after washing, so we made sure that anyone ordering those brands ordered one size bigger.
