Well, I finally did it--electrified the 760J...

Kent Armstrong humbucker, mini thumb wheel pots, mini output jack. All mounted to the pickguard back side.

Not 100% reversible, due to the bracket screws and bridge ground wire, but minimal mods to the guitar, which was a primary consideration.

How does it sound? About like a jazz guitar should. Treble on: Chank, chank. Rolled off: Thunk thunk.

Y'know, jazz boxy.

How thick is the material you used for the pickguard? Did you have to add any reinforcement to stop the pickup flopping around?

The binding around the slash soundholes is real celluloid and quite necessary, in order to keep the spruce from splitting.

The pickguard is laminated from Tor-Tis (top layer) and 1/8"transparent acrylic (bottom layer). The whole assembly is much stiffer than the usual "floating" jazzbox guards made from celluloid material.

Paul the pick guard shape is very pleasing to the eye and it suits the lines and the colour of the guitar perfectly. That is a brilliant choice of design in my mind.

I like it! Those pots on the back of the pickguard are just the thing too! Much nicer than big knobs...

Thanks, Paul - I recently installed a floating pickup on my Godin 5th Avenue, and the stock pickguard is way too flimsy to support it. I ended up just using a piece of dense foam underneath the pickguard, between the mounting tab of the pickup itself and the top of the guitar. It works ok, but I'd rather fabricate something that truly allows it to float.

One more question, if I may - you referred to a mini output jack. Did you use an 1/8" jack? That's what I used, as I happened to have one in the spares box, and I also have a nice Mogami 1/8" - 1/4" cable.

Yes, an 1/8"jack...I made up a special cable from an old Fender tweed one with a broken plug. Looks vintage.

OK, you have the humbucker on it. All you need to do now is route it out for a Floyd Rose Tremolo.
