I managed to get two tickets to see Colin James, so it appears that 2010 is starting off just fine. This will be the third time that my wife and I will have been able to see him in a small venue and we can't wait to hear the familiar sound of his incredible guitar playing for the first time him in our small town. Our local blues and jazz enthusiasts are in for a treat. :D

It was a great performance by Colin. His band was a little nervous and it showed in a couple of places when Colin gave obvious direction to one or two of them. It also showed in the small things they did as they interacted on stage but that was probably only noticed by musicians like me. But when you take into account that they have only done two shows on this tour and we were the second they were fantastic.

Colin must have played every guitar in his collection. :D His voice has become stronger over the years. His vocals soared over the mix and they were in perfect pitch. The three, four and five part harmonies were impeccable as well. The band was a 7 piece. Two guitar players, key board player, drummer, bass guitarist and a sax and a trumpet player.

The drummer was Bryan Adams old drummer (also a founding member of The Odds) and the bass player was also a founding member of the Odds. They key board player has been with Collin 19 years. The second guitar player has been with Collin for three gigs. The sax and trumpet player have recently joined Collin's line up also.

All in all they were very tight. On a personal preference note: I would have preferred to have seen a Rick bass in evidence since the P Bass did not have enough presence in the mix for my taste. It was a very enjoyable evening.

Thanks for asking Joey.

I figured you would enjoy the show.

Time to show that a Rick bass is just as good for blues as a P-bass.
