4001 c64 factory strings

Hi guys,I'm Ron,new member,1st post. My wife bought me a new 4001 c64 for Christmas.I must have been a real good boy this year!!!! My dealer let me open the box on my Fireglo,so I was the first to touch it from the factory.
My question is factory strings. The ball ends on my strings are color coded like D'Addario strings. I havent used Rickenbacker strings in a long time, but I don't remember them being color coded. Could these be D'Addario strings? Just curious. I will be replacing them with TI jazz flats as soon as I hit the lotto.
I have enjoyed the forum for years. You've answered many questions on my other Ricks in the past..Thanks,Ron

They could indeed be D'Addario. I have not seen the RIC bass strings with coloured ball end as yet. There is always something new to be learned, however.

Welcome to the forum! Congrats on the 4001c64 too!

Rick basses seem to be coming with colored ends these days. John Hall indicated on the RIC Corporate forum that it made it easier to get the right strings, but didn't ever say they were D'Addario strings.

Now, the reality of things are (and JH has confirmed this) that RIC does not make their own strings. They source them from various string manufacturers (of which there are actually very few). RIC has certain specifications, one of which is a compressed round wound, which limits them to even fewer manufacturers since not all of them have the equipment to do this. Anyway, they contract with one or more manufacturers to get strings made to their specification.

So, are RIC strings D'Addario strings? No, they are RIC strings, made to RIC specifications. Are they made by D'Addario? It's likely that D'Addario is one of the manufacturers that RIC uses, and with the colored ends, it seems likely that the current strings are being made by D'Addario...

Welcome, Ron! :D

Get the TIs, they are way cheaper than you think as they last forever you won't need to buy another set for years.
