I usually avoid razzing any business, but...

If it weren’t for new strings I doubt I would ever darken GC’s door again. My last trip there was the ultimate. I got my strings, then made the mistake of waltzing into the acoustic guitar room. There in the center of the room, sprawled out on the floor, was a guy strumming tunes for his girl/wife/whatever. She was giggling. He was playing name that tune with her. Get a motel room, or buy the guitar and take it home to serenade her. I felt intrusive, though I was in a public place. They were oblivious to me. I tried looking at guitars, but gave up. For a brief second I wanted to do a John Belushi. Grab the guitar from him, smash it against the wall and walk out, but I didn’t want to pay for a brand new, broken Taylor.
Then I walk out to the showroom to hear some guy doing his Eddie Van Halen impression on amp stack.

It's gotta be my age.

I guess I'm lucky that the nearest Guitar Center is over 250 miles away... And in another state...

Typically, my negative experiences with GC are about employees who have NO idea what they are selling or representing, and unusual policies etc...

You're right, Collin, shouldn't be opposed to love. Like I said, it's gotta be my age. I should have been gracious and gone out and got them a bottle of wine.

Love is blind, and sometimes tone deaf, too, but you'll be ground up under its wheels if you try to stop it. Isn't love the reason all this music and poetry and guitars and stuff were invented in the first place?

Too bad. I stopped in at the GC in San Marcos over the holiday and, in spite of swearing that I wouldn't pick up an instrument and start playing it (I was there with my friends in search of a classical guitar tab book), I went into the acoustic room and starting poking at guitars ... when I came across a Fender acoustic (I don't remember the model) that had incredible action ... I had to pick it up and play it! I was impressed with its smooth, low action! It would make a great starter acoustic for a beginner. (And this comes from a guy who owns only one Fender guitar!)

Some of the newer Fender acoustics, especially the California series are good guitars.

I have never been in a GC and hope that they will never open one in my city, despite rumors that swirl periodically that they will.

Regarding the guy, the girl and the guitar: I think you would have been justified to smash the guitar, although it is pretty admirable that his girl will go to the guitar shop with him.

Not really, they have probably only been dating a week. It will soon wear off!

You are correct, this was a mistake. One should always rumba into the acoustic guitar room. Never waltz.

I did a rumba the last time I went in there, and they politely asked me to leave.

Then maybe she was at least attractive? I think I'm safe to say (although it may be seen as selling out) that most guys have been willing to sacrifice all self-respect and dignity for a girl...
