Did I hook this speaker up correctly for + and -?

I bought a replacement speaker for my Crate Bass Bus battery amp. The cable from the amp to the speaker can unhook on both ends, and the amp side was not marked for + or -. This is all internal wiring, small gauge stuff, printed circuit board type 2 wire push on plugs. Anyhow, the plug on the amp/circuit board side could go either way and I didn't mark it before disassembly (DOH), so I got mixed as to which way to go (color wire doesn't help now, it's not marked on the circuit board for + or -). So I plugged both ends in and checked the voltage at the speaker using a voltage meter. When I put the + of the voltmeter to the + of the speaker and the same for the negative side and pluck the bass, I get a + voltage reading, and I think this is correct. Opposite wiring gives me a negative voltage reading. Did I do this correctly?

That would be correct. Although, as long as it's only one speaker, there's no damage done or degradation of sound by hooking it up backeards.

I was wondering about that also. I was under the assumption that a correct hookup pushes the cone outward, hence pushing more air away from the cab, and a reverse hookup pulls the cone inward, pushing more air into the cab. And does that matter if the cab is ported or not? But, you know when you assume something....

You are correct in your assumptions.

Just make sure it is 'in phase' with other speakers you are using. IOW, when this one pushes out, your others are pushing out as well.
