I'm in with a home-recorded tune I've composed recently, called "Visita Interiore"...

The bass line on the rhythm section is played with my '98 4001v63. It has a capped HS on the bridge. The fretless on the lead is not a Ric unfortunately. It's a J-bass... The tune features myself on bass (fretted & fretless), guitar, Hammond and drums (MIDI).

Sounds great. Love the tone on your Ric. I have never owned a fretless, but I love the sound of them.Granted, your fretless is not a Ric, it still sounded great, and you do great work on it. Thanks for posting that. Mark

Great track, Ilker. That's some sweet soloing - very nice! Your mix isn't bad. If I analysed it more closely, I might find something somewhere that could perhaps benefit from adjustment, but on first listen, nothing jumped out at me as sounding off-balance. Ever considered a fretless Rick?

Not liking what you have done is the first step to improvement. Therefore, I'm always twice critical on my own works.

Given that this mix was done using only AKG K240 headphones and without using a pair of decent monitor speakers, it can be considered a good job. What I am specifically unhappy about it is the way the fretless sits (or, say, it does not sit) in the mix. It sounds to me that the fretless sits on point A while the rest sits on point B, not blending as well as I want them to be. I worked a lot to have a Rick bass blend acceptably into a mix. Its dominant frequencies in the upper mid and treble ranges tend to interfere a lot with the guitars, so it's definitely harder than managing a Fender bass. Now I need to solve the same problem for the fretless

Btw, Mark, I'd surely love to have a fretless Rick. The bridge pickup on a J-bass mwahs nicely but it definitely lacks the meat. Blending in the neck pickups adds meat but because of the RWRP stuff some mids get scooped out, causing a lack of potatoes. I think the Rickenbacker bridge pickup location would be perfect for a nice meaty mwah. On the other hand, in Turkey, Rickenbackers are really rare instruments. Even on Ebay, fretless Ricks do not show up often. I'm pretty sure that there is none in Turkey that I can get my hands on
