Did all of the 21 fret 330 models come with binding on the necks.Here is an example of one from the register.I was interested to know thanks in advance.http://www.rickresource.com/register/vi ... hp?id=7060

They didn't, just a few odd ones from '72ish.

What what the reason for the few that had bound Necks or was it just a matter that they had it and thats that? Thanks for the reply John.The one from the register is a 1961 model. Who knows what Rickenbacker's reasoning was for issuing a few 330s with neck binding? As the 330 is a non-deluxe (standard) model, they shouldn't have had any binding.

Scotty - from what I've read the early 70s were a transitional period for the 300 series guitars when they could have 21 or 24 frets, neck binding, bound headstocks, transitional high gains or toasters etc, etc. RIC could have been using up old stock or just having fun with a mix of ideas - I think that they are still doing it now, e.g. satin finishes, grayglo, a series of one-offs etc. Come to think of it basses were changing a fair bit then too - and still are.

The '72 AZ 330 you've linked to from the register is in the UK now and is owned by (Brian) a friend of mine (I bought my 360V64/6 off of him). I might have some more pics of it at home. It's pretty cool isn't it and the neck is very slim too.
