NEW Celestion G12H80 speakers for $42

Post by philco »

I ordered a couple of new G12H80 speakers from Avatar Speakers for $42 each. This is an excellent opportunity for anybody needing to upgrade their combo amp. The higher power handling and more midrange oriented tone makes them a much better alternative for high powered combos than the G12H30 speaker that replaced them. Avatar Speakers bought up the entire remaining G12H80 production from Celestion. They come with black powder coated frame, so they look good in an open backed combo amp. When they are all gone, they are gone for a long time. They would normally go for $88 from Avatar, and even that is a very low price. The Parts Express price used to be around $115 for the G12H80.

I installed one of the G12H80 speakers into my Traynor YCV40 tonight. I am very pleased with the sound. There is a lot more bass capability as the magnet structure is about twice as big, and I suppose the Xmax is also considerably more. The surprising thing is that it turned the YCV40 into a fairly good practice amp for a 4-string bass. It's going to get played a lot over the holidays, for sure.
