Hadn't seen any mention of this here yet. I'm curious!

This looks to me like a copy of the Janglebox. How much is it new?

I don't think it's in the hand of retailers yet, but supposedly it will be considerably less than a JB.

I've seen some reference to this unit before....I just can't think where. I thought it was here on the RRF. Yeah, it rather does remind me of a poor man's JB2.

Yeah, we were discussing this in another thread.
Since then I've spoken to someone that has had a good look at this inside and out, and the word is that they've basically tried to copy the Janglebox but with cheaper and inferior components.
It also doesn't have the versatility of the Janglebox either.
Kinda like putting cheap 'nobby no name' tyres on your Ferrari. You can drive the car but you know it'll ultimately end in tears.

I saw and heard the Byrdbox at the NAMM show last month. It sounded good to me, but I'm listening with bassist's ears.

You mean, of course, the ears of perfection.

Whirlwind makes good stuff, but it's really obvious that this pedal is marketed for the "Janglebox" type player. Between the Rickenbacker 370 onboard compressor, Jangleboxes 1 and 2, MXR Dynacomp, and the Diamond compressor, (as well as countless like versions)one would think that the 60s Beatles/Byrds/Who type compression market would already be over saturated. I would think that a device of this type, being such a niche thing, would be a bad move for a company that has just started producing exact copies of the MXR 70s stuff that the guy used make back then. They are even making the original Dynacomp to exact specs per their ads.
I find moves like this a little puzzling, as word of mouth will make or break it. I think most of us would like to hear and see it, but all it is going to take is for someone to get a bad one, or for it to be just "ok" for it to become a major downer for Whirlwind. This compressor creates too high of an expectation in name alone to be really succesful, IMHO. Really, "Byrdbox", that's just too tall an order to fill, just as if they called it "Beatlebox", or "Whobox". With too many variables, and too many people expecting something like this to make them sound exactly like the Byrds, they really painted themselves in a corner.
Still would like to check one out though, who knows, might be really cool :D

I'd be interested in Steve Lasko's take on this...

Pulling out an old over-a-year-old thread for this:

Doesn't quite float my boat like the Janglebox does...
