In spite of my avatar pic, I do not yet own one. The FG in the pic is one of Graham's.

The production of the doubleneck ran from '75 until about '92 or '93, as I understand it. About all I can add.

There is some historical info in the Smith book about doublenecks on pp 215-217.

There were a number of one-offs in the '60s. Here's an interesting one from 1963:

Don't forget the special leftie doubleneck made for the president of RCA:
johnhall wrote:The one and only doubleneck instrument like this was made for Rocky Ryan, then president of RCA/Nashville, presented to him by his staff as a Christmas gift. They were unhappy that we charged them $3000 for this totally custom instrument.

Essentially it was a cross between a 4004 Cheyenne and a Dakota guitar.

Did I mention it was left handed?

Wow - I'd love to have a right handed model of the one above.

Thank you all very much for your comments, great pics, and insights and knowledge about the doublenecks! Now that I can finally remember - I have a vague memory of seeing "Chad" of the famous English singing duo Chad and Jeremy - playing one of the doubleneck Rics back in the later sixties on the Ed Sullivan show. Does anyone remember that? :)

Greg, the bulk of these were made between 1974-1982. Models 362 and 4080.

Check out the registry and search those models and you get a listed of instruments, many with pics.

I like Graham's JG 362 doubleneck.

The doubleneck models I've seen all appear to have neck issues-Graham's needed resets for both necks.

The photos I've seen of 362 style doubleneck models usually show bridges that are substantially lowered-almost touching the base plate-an indication that a neck reset is necessary, or will be in the near future should the neck bow more and the truss rods lack any more threads for adjustment.

I liked the 362 best because it was a LOT lighter than the 4080 model!

It's also DOUBLE BOUND. :D

I suppose I should give a bit of background on this particular doubleneck. It was for sale about 10 years ago by John Slog of Guitar Villa in PA. He sent me some photos of it but we couldn't agree on a price and then it was gone. He told me it was a special order and dated to 1963. This is the only photo of it that I could find.

Perhaps someone else has more information on this particular doubleneck. The description of the "Tommy Page" doubleneck on page 216 of the Smith book, also produced in 1963, does not match this one.

I used to own a 362 that barely had a hint of the neck issue, and only on the 12 string side. Another forumite owns it now. I think if you handle them delicately they stay ok. Most boneheads, though, immediately pick them up by the neck(s), which is bad to put all that weight on a set neck. It don't stay set for long that way!
