I don't know about the pricing but the quilted maple on this 1983 Gibson Kalamazoo Custom Shop L-5 CT "Thin" Archtop is pretty amazing:

It has a floating pickup like Jingle-Jangle did with his Jazzbo, too.

Lovely wood. Check out the photo of the back of the headstock, though - are those tuners really badly aligned, or is it just the angle the picture was taken at?
Re: Beautiful quilted maple on a Gibson L-5 CT
I think it's mostly how the photo was taken - I can't see either vertical side of the bass side tuners, but I do see a significant portion of the right vertical side of the treble tuners, particularly the G (I think) tuner in the upper left. I think we are seeing the bass tuners nearly head-on, but we are seeing the treble tuners from an angle so that the bottoms of the treble tuners (sitting on the headstock) are offset to the right of the back face that we see.
I would guess that the photo was taken with the camera so close to the headstock that there is a significant difference in viewing angle for the treble side tuners compared to the bass side tuners.

I suspect you're right - they just looked rather odd.
It did seem unlikely to me that even Gibson would make such an egregious error - but I've been suspicious ever since I saw (about 5 years ago) a brand new, very upmarket SG whose neck appeared to have been grafted into place with badly sanded Bondo.
