My 65 is most likely in need of a reset. The bridge is all the way down and the neck is at an unnatural angle. Iam sure that this is an extensive and $$$$ job. Has any body here had to have this done to a 360/12? Will the factory refurbish it if I pay for it? Any suggestion will be welcome!!!!!!!!!

I am having mine done right now by Curt Wilson in New Jersey. I would absolutely recommend him!

Yes I have always wondered how much this operation costs. I have always just heard oooohhhh it is so expensive!!! but no one ever says how much. Any luthiers here know approx how much a new set costs?

typically $600-$800 depending on who you go to, and what work is being done (are they touching-up or just straight reset? two-piece top or three? all factors....)

That is not bad at all. Especially when you get a 3500 - 5000 guitar.. Are they ever the same after. Also, can you tell it has been done?

From a playing perspective---they are perfectly the same afterwards.

Cosmetically, it just depends who does the job and how much attention they give it (and if they know what they are doing). 99% of the time I can tell if its been reset, but sometimes it takes a couple looks to find where the paint was touched up etc (resetting the neck essentially "breaks the seal" that the original neck has at the neck joint.)

i'd take neck reset over unplayable instrument ...it really doesn't matter how original it is if you want to play it..however there are some problems related to neck reset -
in many cases it is problem of warped body in the area of the neck lip/heal and the moment you get the neck out it opens another can of worms - delamination of the body..
binding coming off on the back...etc...
and so there are also other things to consider- e.g. if the guitar is ready for complete refin refret etc...

$250.00 to $1200.00 !!!!!!!!!! These are the qoutes so far. One luthier declined and the one that seems the best bet has a year waiting list. I may leave it as is and buy myself a 660/12.

A year may seem like a long time, but it will be a blink of an eye, in the long run. A 1964 is a much more rare guitar, when comparing to 65-68, so it will be worth the wait. In the meantime, you get to buy a nice new/used Ric.
