We're rolling up our pant legs here:

Guam - The National Weather Service says Guam should not expect anything great when it comes to a potential tsunami. NWS Meteorologist Paul Stanko says the island could receive waves up to 1' in the open ocean. He says Guam doesn't have anything to worry about since the height of the land is rapid.

This means our slopes are high and there's not enough time for massive waves to build up. The most the island can expect is an increase of 2-3' in extra surf at around 1pm today. While residents are told by the Guam Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense to stay away from the beaches, Stanko is asking people to pull back from the shorelines - more specifically in the east or south of the island to include Mangilao, Talofofo Bay, Inarajan and possibly even as far down as Merizo.

A Tsunami Warning was issued last night to areas in Pacific Region, including Hawaii and Guam, after Chile experienced an earthquake registering 8.8 on the Richter Scale.

Reports are that it caused a panic, but did little damage.

It's all good everybody, had a wonderful dinner on the beach at Waikiki listening to some wonderful acoustic music. It was a little stressful earlier in the day with the sirens going off every hour and the uncertainty of the potental strength destructive force of the tsunami . It's safe to say that we really dodged a bullet out here today, but our Japanese friends may be the next target unfortunately... This will be one of the few occasions that I'm actually happy going to work tomorrow. Thanks for keeping me in your thoughts. :D

Sure glad this turned out to be a relative non-event. Better safe than sorry though. Glad the whole Pacific rim did fine. Thoughts and prayers are with Chile!
