So, the toasters from the late 80's to ???? were 12K? When did RIC start using the scatterwounds with the 7.6 K average and which guitars do they grace?

They switched when they came out with the 325c58 (so, a few years back).

They grace all models with toasters these days.


ps....they are still different than old vintage (60's) toasters.

Ok ..........so 2007?. I am entertaining the idea of a new Ric 12 and would like a similar sound to my mid 60's 360/12.

I believe one way to tell the 12k reissues from the 7.6k reissues is by the bolt heads on the corners of the pickups. Typically the 12k's have Phillips heads and the 7.6k's have a single blade slot. At least thats what I've heard.

Not so, my dear boy. The first guitars to have the 7.4k scatterwounds were the 425v63's and the 325/12's in '99...supposedly.

Doesn't the c58 have it's pickups wound to 4 or 5k?

I knew it coincided with some kind of reissue.



PS, Dennis----the only true way to make it sound closer to your vintage Ric is putting vintage pickups in it, but trust me, it'll never get all the way. There are too many other huge factors (like the X-braced internal body construction, thin CV finish and 40 years of aging) that are at play.

That said, the scatterwounds will take you closer than the 12k hot toasters (which are way cool for six string guitars, I think).
