Donovan RM 1997 VB

Donovan (Leitch) is detailed on the RickResource artist 6 string list, but I hadn't really associated or seen him with a Rickenbacker until I saw this. I like a lot of his stuff and wonder what he played it on? Any ideas anyone?

He also had an RM1999, now owned by Chris Squire.

Yeah, I saw reference to that in a search I did here. I haven't seen a picture of that though. He looks pretty proud of it!

I recently read somewhere that Donovan borrowed the RM 1997, because he needed it for a TV broadcast. He didn't own an electric guitar but he needed one to mime a performance (possibly 'Sunshine Superman'). My memory may be faulty, but that's what I recall. It's hard to believe that he wouldn't have an electric guitar of his own by '66 or '67.

That was the black RM1999 used in the "Hold Out Your Hand" video, or has my memory failed.... again!
