Session Legends - Bass Player

Last night at the bookstore, I picked up the last issue of a special "Bass Player" run called "Session Legends & Studio Gear."

It is better than most of their normal issues, as it interviews or summarizes various session bass players and near the back has articles on home recording, "Bass Meets Studio," etc.

I enjoyed reading about Joe Osborn (and the story of his bass), Carol Kaye, Willie Weeks, Jerry Scheff, etc. I was a but bummed that Mike Leech (Elvis' Memphis sessions) wasn't also featured. Scheff appears to have severe tinnitus and hearing loss (like Pete Townsend).

At any rate, it's a nice all in one reference for bass players from what I could see. I got the last copy at that bookstore, so you may want to get out there sooner than later if you also want to nab one.

I subscribe to the magazine, so I'm mystified as to why subscribers don't also get these special issues. If someone can enlighten me if would be much appreciated.

No Ric pics, alas. Most of the basses appeared to be Fenders or variations.

+1, thinking of canceling my normal subscription because the magazine is just an epic failure lately.

Re: no Ric pics, I'll have to work even harder to become the first studio bassist with an deep attachment to the Ric bass.
