Rickenbacker neck joint

Hi there, I am interested in a rickenbacker 330, need an opinion on the neck joint, as you can see in the photo there is a crack/line along the neck joint. Is/could this be a problem? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Simon

Welcome to the forum Simon.
If the guitar plays properly (good set up) and the bridge seems level from one end to the other and at the middle of its travel as far as height then the line you are seeing is probably just cosmetic. In fact from the photo it may just be wax build up. Have you seen this in person?

It would depend on whether it's just through the finish, or goes deeper than that. Hard to tell from the picture. Does it go all the way around the joint?

Thanks for the reply, no I haven't seen or played the guitar in person. Am interested in the guitar and was sent pics and noticed the line on the neck joint, I realise it's tricky to tell from the photo, am very much a Rickenbacker novice so thought there may have been an explanation to explain whether it seemed dodgy or not from the photo.

Ask the seller for a close-up shot of the area - at least that's I'd do, next to asking the seller about a possible crack it, of course.

Welcome, Simon.

I agree, close-ups of that area would be useful in determining whether it's just wax or something else.

A lot of times the paint along the seam is laid over the glue that joins the neck and body together, and flakes off because it doesn't adhere as well as it does to the wood.

Happened on my 330/12 too.

Have had a similar (seemed to be temperature related) crack appear quite dramatically, then calm down, then virtually vanish on my 330 Red, so I think this is more pronounced on solid colour guitars. I guess you really need to get your hands on it and have a good look and play. Good luck.
