I was in Pittsburgh Guitars two years ago checking out a Hofner when a guy brought in a homemade cigar box guitar that looked like it cost about $3.00 to build. He plugged it in and everyone in the store stopped what they were doing. It had the most authentic vintage blues sound I'd ever heard, just amazing. He was gone before I could get a good look at how it was actually constructed, what pickup, etc... but the blues guys in the shop were beside themselves.

Thanks for that link, Ken.

Over here in Holland making one's own guitar is mostly a thing of the past (1950s-60s) or dedicated luthiers who make regular guitars. Cigarbox guitars is the kind of guitar that's not taken seriously in Holland. Maybe that's doing it injustice though?

This reminds me of the local guy making cardboard box basses.

Also, I just found out that some other local guy is making wall mount guitar hangers that are painted hands, like zombie hands, Spider-man, etc.

I've never played a cardboard box bass, but I have played one of these:

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...
