The ferrules on the tuners of my '74 4001 "creep" out over time. I'm thinking I could just carefully glue them in with a little titebond (real titebond).

Opinions?

Which tuners does your '74 have?

I'm gonna guess that it's the nickle-plated, open-geared reverse tuners. And I'm gonna guess that you have the small metal ferrules.

My solution would be:

Carefully wrap masking tape around part of ferrule that fits into headstock. Use razor blade to trim tape flush with bottom of ferrule. Wrap just enough that ferrule fits snugly into headstock. Repeat for other three ferrules. Twist all volume knobs fully in a clockwise manner. Play bass.

Huh, I just learned something. I'd heard talk of Kluson tuners over the years but didn't catch that they were the reverse nickle ones. Thanks.

Yessir, yessir! Actually, I'm not positive if they were in fact made by Kluson or if they just closely resemble tuners made by Kluson.

Either way...the nickle-plated open-back reverse tuners are often referred to as Klusons.
