Looks like a 6 and a 12. The 6 appears to have Van Ghent tuners--note the translucent keys visible near the beginning.

The liner notes for the compilation that I have indicate that the band, with a lot of influence from parents, canned the guitarist that originally played on the hit and hired someone else who would play guitar and not hog the stage. They were also about to tour with the Beatles, except there was a snafu with their management. They have a couple of other great songs in the same vein: "Mary" and "Get Out of My Life" (I think those are the right titles), both of which have some great 12-string work.

Great break-up song.
Vocal highlight....... "Too bad little girl, it's all over for you. Hah Hah Hah Hah".
I have yet to get tired of that. The flip side (of the 45), "You", is pretty good, too. It has a bit of Left Banke style to it.

Why didn't all these cool 60's garage bands have bass players who didn't play Rics? I mean, if they are going to go for the matching suits, why not go all the way!
