I'm totally happy with the 4001c64s. The neck is thin and its very confertable to play. the horseshoe pickup sounds like incredible. Amazing!. the toaster sounds very clean. the body is light. Not heavy. Its just stunning!!! amazing bass indeed. Now, the 4003 that I used to have was thick from the neck, Yet heavy that makes it unconfertable and it bit wide. Mine was a 2006. I personally didn't like it. it just wasen't for me. in the other hand, the 4001c64s is just what I was looking for. today I played it with my church band and it sounded amazing that people were enjoying the sound. Thanks to Rickenbacker for making this bass. or should I say thanks to sir Paul Mccartney. This is just my opinion here. I know there are gonna be 4003 users that are gonna say that im nuts. anyways Thanks Rickenbacker!!!!!!

I dont think your nuts, I have a C64, V63, 2 Larado's, and a Cii, and 3 4003's and agree with you, the 4004's have fast become my favorites, and the C64 and V63 are more my taste my 4003's see very limited play and always take a back seat to the others, enjoy the C64s to the max, "HAPPY RICKEN"

I have a 4001C64 in FG and a 4001C64S in satin FG, and both are amazing. I had a 4003, it was an excellent bass, I just prefer the body w/o binding. The C64S has the one piece neck, which feels a lot like my 4000 made in 1974. The C64 has the new two-piece neck and is slightly wider, but still thin. Sound on these C64 basses is fantastic. I string mine with TI flats.

While I'm a big not-fan of the reverse headstock, the C64's I've played sounded amazing.

I didn't like my 4003 2006. It was beautiful and all but I didn't see it like a Intrument that I would always use. The c64s in the other hand is sounds more better in my opinion then the 4003. The body is just ever so light. The 4003 was heavy. I quess because of the wood. Once again, the horseshoe pickup sounds like "Alice in Wonderland"

I wouldn't even consider a 4003. My '76 4000 with the custom neck pup was as close as I could get (to Macca's bass) at the time. It has served me well, and it's still a fantastic instrument 34 years on. Binding and fret markers aside (ugh), we all find our comfort zone and seek the aesthetic groove we desire. In the end, we all still dig the RIC. Play on, brother!

I too am a "not-fan" of the reverse headstock, but I certainly wouldn't kick a C64 out of bed!

Jeff Thomas loves the V63 and C64 basses but always removes the horseshoes because they get in his way. I was just teasing him. I am a horseshoe lover.
