Pics: My Powder Blue Classic Stingray!

Post by sloop_john_b »

I know some of you were curious about the new Classic Stingray I ordered a few months back. It finally came!

I'm a godawful photog, but I took it into the sun yesterday for some quick pics. Dig that Powder Blue finish!

I think all the Classics I've seen so far have had birdseye maple necks - I opted for flame:

I'm bringing it out to play for the first time tonight, through my new Markbass rig (always had a LMK II, just got 2x10 and 1x15 Markbass cabs!), so I'll be able to really give a report on the tone after that. But just through tinkering, I know I really like the 2-band EQ over the three. I never knew what to do with the mid control anyway - I always just left it dead center.

The mutes are fun to play with. Josh - they were a bit stubborn at first, so I can see how you got cut on them. They loosened up a lot the more I used them. Much more subtle muting effect than with the Rick mutes.

Very comfy neck and I love the high gloss. Never liked satin or matte finished necks.

Really excited to play it out later. :D

nice neck wood on that one, sloop. last time i saw a white pickup was either dougie from supertramp when i saw them in '78 or hamilton from aerosmith back in the late seventies. interesting on the six bolt neck...my jetglo '77 was a micro-adjust 3 bolt like fender.

Awesome bass. I have a '62 Jazz Bass RI that has neck wood like that.

Great looking bass John. I'm a fan of MM basses as well. I dont have one currently, but would like to pick up a HS Stingray.
