Well, perhaps mother and daughter is more appropriate. These have very different features and sounds. The April '73 has the nice toaster clean fundamental and the growly early hi-gain, while the July '08 has a more "current" sound - big and round. Actually, I'm still trying to put my finger on the differences; this is my first cut.

Nice photo John! I should get mine together like that too.
Semi-OT but I'm glad this forum has cultivated a bit of a "fretless subculture"... thanks to Joey and Tony for spurring that along.

Joshua - I share your sentiment and second your praise to Joey and Tony.
John - Great photo! I'm terribly jealous, but I'm also happy for you. (More jealous than happy, honestly.

)
Peace.

Stunning, Joey. Simply stunning. I burn for a Ric FL. That day will come, and when it does it will be a sweet one.
Cheers!

I, for one, certainly don't mind, Joshua! Like any decent Ric freak, I relish the pictures. You all should be very proud of your instruments and show them off every chance you get. Just makes me want an FL even more!

Yes, by all means, keep the photos coming. I have to say that Joey's '75 fingerboard dots are much nicer than mine - more yellowed and blueish. Those on my '73 look almost the same as those on my '08 4003.

You guys are killing me with all this eye candy. Truly beatiful...there's just something about a Ric. I mean for the person that doesn't even play or entertain the thought of playing, having one in your house should still be a necessity.lol

My FL has a sibling, but I don't own it. As it happens, Joshua's Amber Fireglo 4003 FL has the serial number 1 less than mine, so they're about as close as you can get:

And the MID I posted is two less than Joshua's. According to the Register, Rick made at least six FLs in July 2008.
