My June 1977 JG 620 is here...

Well I am a happy camper!
My June 1977 JG 620 is here at last...
I am so sad by what the first owner did to the guitar way back in the early eighties... The tuners especially look ghastly! It really needs a set of vintage kluson tuners for the small headstock to look right.
The colour of the fret board is much darker then I remember by old 620 being - but the neck itself feels exactly the same...
My gratitude to Collin and Dan for their help in getting this guitar to my home... and it arrived on John Hall's birthday too - how is that for a Happy Omen...
A few pics

Brian, I'm happy for you! It looks great! Are those rick humbuckers? Agreed on vintage tuners.

Beautiful guitar.
Now to learn a few Housemartins songs on it.

Now with five ricks you've passed my total, Brian. The RAS is strong in you. Looks like I have some shopping to do ...

You need a 12 string Kira!
Me I am Rickenbackered out now... at least for a while... I have restoration plans in mind for two of my guitars... That will never get done if I keep getting more of them that need work.
At least they all play well.
And yes the EMG's do sound great... They just don't sound very Rickenbackerish. Me I want the guitar I remember when I was 17 back...
Most striking feature is the darker then normal fretboard... I am not even sure that it is bubinga. The binding and tiger stripe inlays have aged nicely...

Very nice Brian. A set of Kluson's will give it that 70's look.

Dang, that's an early one! Didn't realize they made them that early.
(First person to mention Mike Campbell gets punched in the NOOB!)

Dan has a JG one from 1974...
They are rare though... Likely less then 20 guitars a year of this model in the 70s. (That is my best guess based upon no real data - other then the register here)..
I am happy to have one back in my life - even though it needs much work to be restored to stock condition.

Ah, I must have been thinking of the 12ers. My bandmate has an 81 620/12 JG previously owned by our own JB. It's a very cool guitar. I'm guessing then, that your '80 is a very early one?
