Is it unusual for a 1983 4003 to have the Grover wavy tuners on it?. It also has the bridge with two rear screws on it to prevent tail lift? When/why did Rickenbacker stop using the bridge with the two extra rear screws on the 4003. Bass was made in November 1983. I just bought this bass and am really enjoying the great Rick sound.

A quick look in the register will tell you that the 4003's from 83 either have or once had wavy grovers. Some have replacements, but the four screw holes are showing. Hard to tell about poor WD613, though.

Rickenbacker had left over Grovers from the early 70's and would use them periodically when they ran out of the regular ones, you'll see early 80's 4003's with original Grovers occasionally, I'm pretty sure they ran out of them during the early 80's. I had several early 80's basses with the 6 bolt tail piece too, they also stopped doing that during the early 80's.

My '87's and my '88 have the 7 screw tail, but I'm pretty sure I've seen later '88's that don't have 7.

CJ, that is a really cool bass! The pics on the register are the best I've seen of it.
