An instrumental that was a #1 hit!
This is a live recording with Don Rich playing lead and Buck playing the harmony (not on the studio version). I loved this song when I heard it on "Where The Action Is" back in the day. Dig the suits and sparkle guitars. At Summer NAMM in Nashville one year I went to a Fender party at The Wildhorse Saloon. When I got there, Marty Stuart and his band were taking the stage with matching Blue Sparkle Teles and Jazz Bass. Somebody yelled, "Who do you think you are; Buck Owens & The Buckaroos"? Marty walked up to the mic and said, "As a matter of fact......" and they kicked into "Buckaroo". It was AMAZING-they nailed it!

In Fall, 1979 on Hee Haw, I saw Buck Owens play "Buck's Polka" on a lightshow Rickenbacker. Unfortunately, we only had access to a B&W TV set :(

One of the few songs I actually play lead on!! Tom Brumley on pedal steel completely changed
the landscape of pedal steel with that song.

Always loved Don Rich; broke my heart when he was killed. Now, we need to find Clarence White's version and compare the two!

At the Nashville party where I saw Marty Stewart, he later pulled out Clarence's Parsons/White Tele (which he still owns and plays) for a few tunes.
Emmylou Harris does a nice version in a medley with "Love's Gonna Live Here" on her live "Last Date" album. I saw her on the tour where it was recorded, and she played lead on it with Frank Rekard playing the harmony. Definitely the BEST LOOKING version I've seen!
Great tune!

Leo Kottke does a neat fingerpicked version of it, too.
