Vintage vs Modern "R" Tailpiece

Does anyone know if there is any difference between a 1960s and '80s, '90s or later R tailpiece? I was thinking of purchasing one to keep with my '65 360/365 in case I ever decide to convert it back. I do know that some R's are milled out for 6 strings and some for 12 strings, but other than that, I'm in the dark. Also, is there any differences in the placement of the mounting screw holes from vintage to modern?

yeah, there's a number of minor changes.
Three main versions I have found:
1st version - '64- mid '67 (from my experience, this is the cutoff).
-Rougher casting, heavier metal, "flat" appearance to the legs of the "R", 12-string ONLY, and the slots for the strings are obviously cut on a saw, not cast
into the metal. The bracket will have two holes drilled in seemingly irregular patterns from the main strap button hole. These are the most heavy-duty
2nd version- mid '67- '72 ?
-Smoother casting, lighter metal, introduction of six-string tailpieces, string slots are casted, not cut with a saw. "R" still has a flatter looking appearance than later tailpieces. Holes for the bracket can be irregular or evenly spaced at this point.
3rd version - 70's - present
-Same as above, but without the "flat" appearance to the "R."
This is just based on what i've seen taking apart tons of 60's Ricks. If you search the forum, I posted a picture comparison awhile back that demonstrates the difference between the 1st and 3rd versions of the tailpiece.
The 1st versions are very hard to find, btw.
