Rick 2020, 2030 and 2050?

What is the difference between Rick basses 2020, 2030 and 2050s?

The reason I ask is that I have what I believe is a 2030 but the pictures I've seen of these basses have no neck binding and the one I have has binding on it. From the serial # it was made in Oct 85. Any help with this is much appreciated.

I don't know for sure if the necks on 2030s were bound, but since they are "bolt-on" necks, it's possible that a bound neck from a 2050 was put on a 2030 purposely/mistakenly.

My 2030's neck came bound. I always found that a bit strange, since the original body wasn't bound or particularly fancy, but I do like the bound neck.

Everybody, thanks for the feedback. Todd, I will go with 2030 model.
This bass has a very fat yet defined sound, which I suppose it partly due to the single coil pickups.

The 2030 and 2050 have binding on the neck. The 2020 and 2060 do not.

Todd, I always liked that mod on your bass a lot.
I wonder, though, how it would be to do a 610-style reshape on one of these...

Kenny, I remember Dane reshaping a few of them like that a few years back.

I don't use it often, but the 2030 will also do monster clean sound. I usually keep flats on it for that '60s-'70s sort of tone, but right after I installed the new body I had half-rounds on it. I'd been looking at acoustic bass guitars and hadn't found one that I really liked the sound of. As it turned out, I could get a better acoustic bass sound just by tweaking the knobs on the amp and 2030 than buy going out and buying another bass. Here is an old clip with the half-rounds when I was just fooling around and had the recorder running. Considering the playability and the vast range of tones that you can generate with one of these basses, they're highly under-rated. I don't believe my switched body had much if anything to do with the tone here. Any 2030 should be able to make this kind of sound. All we need to do is figure out what sort of song we can use it in. This is recorded with both pickups running. Check out the clip labeled "Test Drive in D"
