I was in one of the London guitar shops chatting about guitars with the man and I mentioned I was from Edinburgh, and he went 'Ah! now I get it - Edinburgh, Edinburgh-Glasgow, Glasgow Rickenbacker thing'. Question is. Is there a Glasgow Rickenbacker thing?

I've always assumed that there must be something in the water up there (Laguvalin?) with that whole West-Coast, power pop thing and maybe that's where the Rickenbacker connection comes in?

I suppose when it boils down to it I can only think of early Primal Scream, Cosmic Rough Riders and (my personal favourites) Teenage Fanclub (although there are quite a few lesser known offshoots who I keep meaning to explore, e.g. "Primary 5"). As far as I'm aware, the Fanclub have never used Rickenbackers (not that I've seen) Which probably makes them the most jangly guitar band never to use a Ric!

Err... that'll be me "pwned" then (or whatever it is that they say to indicate utter humiliation these days).

I was basing my sweeping generalisation on the few times I'd seen them live. I can't recall them using any 12 string at the gigs so maybe my memory is fugged with one too many light ales.

Still, always nice to hear anything from Songs from Northern Britain - one of the great albums of the last 20 years.

Not at all Brendan We all learn something new everyday thats the spice of life. Songs from Northern Britain is one of my all time favorite LPs.
