A New Band in Lawrence, KS

Some of you knew this already. I'm putting together a new band here in Lawrence, KS. A folk-rock/country-rock band called Getty Township. We have 5 musicians; myself on Rick 12 string, fiddle and vocals; a Saturday afternoon jam buddy of mine on guitar, harp, and vocals; a bass player that I found through a musicians' referral website, a drummer who found me through Craig's List, and a pedal steel guitar player I know through the Americana Music Academy.

The band's sound as you can imagine would be something like a mash-up between the Byrds, and the Flying Burrito Brothers; like the Byrds with a steel guitar, or the Burritos with a Rick 12 string.

As to where or how I came up with the name for the band, cheers or raspberries go the the RRF. It all started with this game we played many moons ago.

Our first rehearsal is Friday, 4 June. I've been asked to post a video somewhere. I make no promises; I'll see what I can do. Wish us luck.

I'll get a jump on my blog here on the RRF. We had a fine time last night. I think the band is going to be a go as everyone said they were having fun. The songs we went through were
  • You Ain't Goin' Nowhere
    Feel A Whole Lot Better
    Mr. Tambourine Man
    You Got Me Runnin'
    Mr. Spaceman
and a Lynyrd Skynyrd song whose title I can't recall (I mistakenly called it "Stand Up And Scream")
Alas, I forgot to turn on the camera, so no video. We'll be getting together for more rehearsals. And I hope we'll be out and about by the end of summer playing live.
