Very interesting. There's the "other one" on ebay (or is this the same one that was $4,995?) as well as a couple (or was it just the one that sold) that sold with some difficulty here a few months ago. IIRC, the price was around $2,800 give or take.

You never know what a $1.00 start will do. I've bought a few rare-ish books, and I've seen listings not sell for $200, but then they get re-listed at $1 and the bidding goes up to $350.

Is that three in the past couple weeks?

If you start low, you tend get a tonne of watchers, some of whom may get excited and push the price up. If you start high, no one gets excited, no one watches, and the price stays where it is.

The trick is to get buyers interested who wouldn't normally bother, hope that their interest develops into excitement, then expectation, and finally a frenzy of bidding.

As a buyer, I'll watch any Rick that starts at a $1, even if I would have no interest in paying full price for it. The longer it stays low, the more excited I get, and the more I'd be willing to pay for it in the end, lest I feel like I got excited for nothing.

As a seller, it can even be disappointing to see the price rise too quickly because I know it denies other bidders the excitement of thinking they may snag a bargain. I've see droves of watchers drop off as soon as a certain price is reached. The only thing that matters is the last minute of the auction, and If I've still got 40 watchers, I know I'm fairly safe that the price will rise. Anyone who says 'it's just a simple matter of who is willing to pay the most' or 'it doesn't matter when you bid' or 'it's not dependant on any factor other than the item' is misunderstanding how most of our brains work...

Aha! Good luck, Michael. I'm interested in watching, but since I have one of the DCM's, I won't be bidding. As you know, there has been much discussion here on the DCM's since they were made available.

that is the same one i saw listed as a buy it now for 4995.99 no one could of swung that price he must be trying to get what he can now...weird ?!? personally I would just play and love it and keep it all to myself...hmmmmm

No, there are two separate auctions for two separate 75th Ann. basses which happen to look identical.

There's one for sale in the UK at a music shop for nearly £4k!

One did sell on E-bay UK a few months back, and if I remember it barely crept over the £2k mark.

I suppose like most things, it's how much you want one!
