Aloha,
Are there any guidelines for figuring out the value of a modded vintage? I have most of the original parts, sadly not the pick up and horseshoe. Does anyone have the 2010 Vintage Price Guide? I can't locate one here on Maui to see
how much the market may have dropped.
Mahalo, Shelly

Welcome, Shelly! :D

According to the 2010 VG Price Guide 1967-1969 4000 basses range from $3,500-$4,000, keeping in mind these are for excellent condition instruments.

Shelly,

Post a few pix if you can. Does the bass have it's original finish? Fireglo? Mapleglo?

BTW, I treat the VG prices with a grain block of salt.

Yeah, I would rate a $3500 '67 4000 as a "fire sale" price. Likely no problem getting much higher than that at auction, though modified can change things big time.

Post pics though, they say a thousand words, you know.

Thanx for the welcome & Mahalo to all for your info. Great that the VG guide is not that accurate. I'm about to deconstruct & photograph. Will post before I had it modded pix & current pix. My Ric already had a lousy thick drippy finish on it when I acquired it in the mid 70's. It was a carmel color. I figured having it sprayed natural was an improvement. My pro guitar builder pal convinced me to do other mods. I just cringe when I remember him asking me, "Do you want to keep this old thing?" He was holding up the original Ric horseshoe p/u. I replied, "I guess not." AAARRGH! I'm trying to find out if he might still have it 25 yrs. later. Yeah, right... I think it could be put back to original but that tweaks the value too. OK, time for autopsy.
Mahalo hou kakou! (thanx again to everyone) Shelly

You're welcome, Shelly. It will be interesting to see the pictures. And who knows, the luthier may still have the pickup in some box on the shelf - I'll keep my fingers crossed!
