Just wondered if there was a market over here for any of the Peavey T-40s or 45s? I might have some up for sale. I've never played one yet, but I'm told they are Rick clones as far as sound goes.

The one I have played was hardly a "Ric clone" at all. But they do sound distinct.

I have a T-60 which is a T-40 with fewer and smaller diameter strings. It's no Ric but it's an awesome guitar. The T-60 seems to be popular, I'll bet it's nice.

What I'm hearing on TB is that the T-40/45 has as close to the Rick sound as you could get.

I feel that the t-40 can come closer to the Rickenbacker sound more than any other bass that is not a Rickenbacker! but they have more to offer. To a degree thay also mimic a Wal bass, and a bit of Gibson EB-3 but they can not do "Precision" to save their lives.

A T-40 is most at home being a T-40. I'd love to get another one some day..

I've heard some clips of these online in addition to the one I played and I just don't get the supposed tonal similarity. I think perhaps what's really going on is that they are good at playing some of the same music Rics are traditionally associated with, like prog/cutting rock, but yet I don't hear an actual tonal similarity. Rics tend to sound much cleaner to my ears than most any other model of bass--the T-40 included. The T-40 cuts decently in a similar fashion to a Ric bass, however I also hear lots of greasy mids that are very un-Ric. (There's a "Cupid's Dead" video on YT that is a fairly good example of this, although the sound quality is not top-notch for either bass.) But then I don't use my Rics for the kind of music Rics are typically known for so maybe that's why I have a different perspective on this than the folks at TalkBass. When someone says, "Sounds like a Ric," I rarely know what to make of it. In any case there's no reason you shouldn't look one of these basses up, as they have quite a following and you may really enjoy one. The one I played was not for me but I don't think you can judge a model of bass just going off of one instrument.

Hmm,

I guess it's kind of like a Gibson Ripper with that variable tone switch...when on position #4 can give you a decent RIC sound?

I love the two T-40's I presently own. When I want a RIC sound, I play a RIC...when I want to mess around with something different, I'll pull out a T'40.

There are many who think that just because they can get another bass guitar to produce a tone with an overdriven treble bite, it sounds just like a Rick. You can do that with ANY bass guitar. Doesn't mean it sounds just like a Rick

The T-40 has a very punchy tone. The neck as I recall is huge and the guitar is very heavy.
I've owned a few of the T-60 6 strings..nice neck good tone bargin price..also quite heavy
