I've had Jason at Too Many Guitars in Tucker do the set up on several electrics for me. He did a fine job. He did the Rickenbacker work for Midtown Music before they closed.

Thanks guys. Question... Is setting up an acoustic much different than an electric? I've got a guy who does my Rick electrics and love him because he does the set up to my style of playing. Should I just take it to him or try one of these guys?

I had a Fishman tape put in under the bridge and I think that raised the action a bit so I assume we are talking about sanding the bridge insert down a little (as opposed to raising or lowering the electric bridge)... Color me uninformed. I need to learn how to do this myself... But not on a Rick Acoustic.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Hey, Jim:

You need to go to somebody experienced in acoustic setups. If your usual electric guy does acoustics as well, go to him. In general, acoustics require a bit more sensitivity, or "ear", and slightly different technique than electrics. Rick acoustics aren't made of platinum, and there's no difference in setting a Rick up from, say, setting up a good Martin. If yours played to your taste before you put the Fishman ribbon into the bridge, then your saddle will simply need shaving back about .030" to make it right again. You can do this yourself with a smooth-jawed vise and a file or sanding block.

Have your tech call me if he has any questions.

Thanks Paul.

I will do that put my guy in touch with you if he needs to chat about them because I am sure he has never seen one.

I was wary of my electric guy at first, but I was sitting around watching him one day and commenting on it and he said something like: "Ricks are actually easier for me since you have two trusses to adjust." (I suppose no individual saddle height adjustment either). I don't know if that was puffing or not, but I will tell you my 360s come out perfect (and stay perfect) for my style... Slightly taught w/ 10's but still a little slink to them if that makes sense. KH borrowed my JetGlo 360 and agreed.

The acoustic has been a curious one. The neck is thicker than I had expected and the action is higher. I suppose I need the bridge shaved down and I will not even attempt. My comparison is my dad's old Gibson J-45 ('66). Probably the ugliest guitar I've ever played but the sweetest sounding and the neck is slim, like my electric Ricks. Again, ugly, but warm and full and woody sounding.

In any event, thanks for the feedback.
