New to the site, Love it, very informative and inspirational! I find Its always a relief to know there are others out there as "unwell" as myself. Proud owner of a 2006 4003, it needs help, lots of held, so as soon as I get the shop ready for refinish n such, I'd love to share the photo progress to see what people might think. I have been VERY inspired by some of the work I've seen lately, hope I can do it justice.

Over n out-
Cheers!

Welcome, my friend. What Paul said. 'Before' pictures are always welcome. I'd like to say for altruistic motives, it's because we'd like to fully appreciate your efforts and attention to your fine instrument, but the fact is, we're just Ric pr0n fanatics.

I hope I did this correctly...

http://s741.photobucket.com/albums/xx55 ... nt=066.jpg

http://s741.photobucket.com/albums/xx55 ... nt=068.jpg

So...lots of scraping and sanding for me...And as its going to be Jetglo again, do I need to take it to the wood for better results or just take the clear off to a lower level of paint, then sanding sealer and paint? hmmm...the jury is out!

I also have another idea ...I have in my possession... checkerboard binding! Now I know its a newish 2006 but I just love that subtle touch. I figure I can stomach doing it to a newer model rather than a classic era one where i would normally go for a restoration to the letter. Also, I like the look of the toaster PU's and the old style cover plate for the bridge PU. so I'm thinking going for a more classic look here when it comes to the Hardware as well.

BTW, I make my own guitars (bodies and such) and know my way around a shop, but I am no expert luthier, but I'm always trying to learn where I can. The binding work will be the new challenge and I plan to do some practice runs with a tele body I have first.

Anyway, I am very 'jazzed' and will begin Sunday ( if the world cup party does'nt take me out that is)

Well, I hope everyone has a great weekend, and I'm looking forward to any comments or suggestions you may have.

CHEERS!

S.

Looks like you're in for a good time! I say, sure, put the checker binding on if you like it! I've got a 2010 4003 that has it and it looks great on new ones too!

As for learning, you've got one of the best right in your neighborhood! Forum member jingle_jangle does fantastic factory quality refinishes, and is the guy who makes all the acoustic guitars for Rickenbacker... :D
