Will a vintage Ric 330 fit into a newer style case for an RM1997 reissue?

Yes, it will. Other than the 381 and 331 models, nearly all full size 300 series Rics will fit in either modern or vintage cases no problem.
....or you can buy a vintage case for that vintage guitar!

Very smooth!

Thanks for the info. Also, that RM1998 is gorgeous!

This might be a stupid question...

Why are the vintage style ones double the price? I know the crushed velvet is super cool but it seems to me that newer style ones may offer more protection with the moulded interior? Is there a difference in the strength of the cases or is it simply a visual thing? I have only ever seen the moulded ones in person.

Easy. They cost twice as much to manufacture, and use twice as much materials to make, and are much rarer than the common SKB cases.
Every time i've seen a Ric case fail (or heard about one failing, a guitar getting damaged, or a hole puncture into the case), it was on an SKB case.
Ps...Kenny's right, "double the price" is a total exaggeration.

Thanks for all the info guys. I had just looked at a couple of links and I saw one somewhere with one of the SKB ones going for $100ish. I can't find that link now! Must have been someone clearing out a used one or something. I thought at a glance that it was the price for a new one. What I have seen after checking out a few Rick dealers online is that a new SKB case is also over $200. It all makes sense to me now. I just didn't look around enough before.

Oh well that's why I asked. Also, the other thread with specific info on the different models was very helpful. Thanks again!

Mike Parks at the Rickenbacker Page has both kinds of cases for sale.
