It will be interesting to see if these Yoko Ono "remastered" efforts sell at all, or if John's fans prefer to have his works as JL himself created them.

She can un-Spectorize Instant Karma - I never did like the sound on that one.

I, for one, am extremely excited by this. John's voice was amazing in the 70's (as was little Paulie's), but the horrendous production on most of his albums dilutes that and makes strong songs ok, ok songs weak and weak songs...well...

When I heard the R-n-R cuts on the Lennon Anthology or Nobody Loves You When You're Down And Out, it was utterly revelatory. His voice, w/just a touch of verb, bloody hell, dead dry was a virtuosic instrument....

I can't help but think that Phil Specter, in the final analysis, did nothing for John and certainly nothing for The Beatles.....he just sort of, self aggrandized, self promoted and self destructed. His production on JL's records (w/POB being an exception, mostly b/c he just COULDN'T Specter-ize THAT material), I think, is absolute sh*t.

The reissues will include Imagine (1971) and Rock ‘n’ Roll (1975). Most controversially Double Fantasy (1980), the last album Lennon released before he was murdered, has been “stripped down” to remove some of the instrumentation.

Imagine --- WHY?.... its fine as it is.
Rock ‘n’ Roll ---- bad album to begin with (should have been called Rock ‘n’ Roll Sans Guts) - nothing Yoko can do would be of any help.
Double Fantasy (1980) --- worth a listen, I guess.

IMO, most if not all of Lennon's solo stuff sucks, production wise. Even the song 'Imagine'. Who mic'd that piano? I recently heard a demo (guitar and voice) version of Lennon doing 'Watching The Wheels'. Thought it was much better than the studio/released version.

Yeah, the production on a lot of John's solo stuff is horrible. Spector was a total creep... I mean he's in the booth singing backing vocals on some tracks!

I don't think you can just undo the Wall Of Sound, tho...

I'll give them a listen if they are re-mastered, un-Spectorized and de-Yoko'd!
Other than that, forget his 70's CR*P.
Don't get me wrong, JL is one of my heroes, but most of his work then is unlistenable. How many horn/brass sections do you need to play rock'n'roll?

I only have Plastic Ono Band and Imagine and those sound...okay. I do agree, though, most of the solo stuff just sounds bad. Then again, he had to approve it to be released, I'm sure, so maybe that's how he wanted it?

But according to both George Martin and Geoff Emerick, John hated the sound of his voice, and always wanted it covered/processed/messed around with... Maybe he wasn't the best judge, or at least his approach may not be what many of us would like to hear...

Instant Karma has got an "pre echo" on the vocal part, even the live version.
That meens, the echo is louder than the original voice, and Lennon sings too early.
So the slap echo comes just in time and the original volca part comes as a pre-echo
