I've just been noodling my way through the Register and I found an entry for the above bass. Does anyone have pics of this? I've never seen an original Azure pre '72 (and I've only seen a couple of '72s).

Hey Mark you got an August/September/October/November/December '73 in the works yet?

Or just more Bongo basses!?

It's interesting to me because in my brief experience I've preferred the sound of the earlier pre-skunks (my '72 being the prime example). I'd love to try that '71.

Sean's right, there's a certain allure to a pre-skunk 4001, and especially one in azure since they are so damn rare. I wouldn't mind having one but the cost would equal/exceed my four Bongo five strings. So for now I'll just stick with them and chop wood with my 73's.

How do you find the Bongos Mark? I'd be really interested to try one in my band but am not currently in a financial position to risk buying one only to find it's not for me (been there and done that so many times). I know one or two people have had issues with the ergonomics, but I have different needs than most; a forearm contour for instance is a no-no for me.

Nothing wrong with Azure '73s BTW, as evidenced by the PW restoration I just sold to Bert. Gorgeous!

I also play a Bongo and HIGHLY recommend them. I think Mark and I are thinking along the same lines. I just have to get 3 more of them. :)

According to Mike Parks, AZ ran from 1968 to 1986...

Not too many old azures out there but I remember Simon Mole of the UK has got a nice Jan 73 with all the good stuff. Apologies to Shaun for spelling his name like Mr. Connery's. Yeah the Bongos are pretty cool, mainly for me due to their five string configuration, but I don't talk about them here much out of respect for the Rick brand. Pick one up some time and wail on it, the pre-amp goes to 11. 8)
