Just thought I'd say hello to everyone from the North West of England.

This seems like a fantastic place to find out about Rickenbacker guitars.

I'm considering buying my first Ric (a 300 or 360) after many years owning "the usual suspects". It's not easy to even find any Rics to try out in this part of the UK. I'm not sure if mail order is recommended - I recently returned 2 Gibson 330s because of "issues" but I keep hearing very positive things about Rickenbacker's quality control so maybe it would be less of a risk?

Anyway, I've learned quite a lot already from just browsing here.

Welcome Brendan,If you float around the UK section there are a few reputable dealers you might find from the UK.Look under the Stores and sightings in the section.

Welcome to the Forum Brendan good luck in your quest.... you could aways come to the states, buy one and take it home with you. Not a cheap way of doing it but might be fun!

A good time to do this would be when MARF IV is held, presumably (I think) at Pick Of The Ricks in November (I think), [see a pattern, here? ]; you could buy one from Chris and take it back with you after all the festivities.

Hi Brendan. Welcome to the forum! I bought my most recent Ric (a mapleglo 360) online. It's a great guitar. But I will admit that trying out Rics is a good idea to do (I'd had a jetglo 360 in the past [that I foolishly sold], so I know what I was in for playingwise, when I bought mine online), since they don't necessarily feel like your typical Gibson or Fender-type guitar plauyingwise, which can be offputting to some players.

The Avatar seems to have generated some interest - it's from the picture sleeve of the single "You're a Good Man Albert Brown" by the Dukes of Stratosfear (the name adopted by the wonderful XTC for their psychedelic side-project). I'd urge anyone who likes that sort of thing to check them out.

I love the Dukes stuff - possibly more than some of the XTC material (at least the stuff with all the Linn drums all over it). There's something about the fun, "off the leash" feel that really comes across in the recordings.

I suppose the XTC pressures and fallouts are well documented elsewhere and the Dukes were an opportunity to get back to enjoying making music without the weight of expectation of being a "name" band.
