New Board member; question about dot inlays

Hi!
Great forum; I've mostly been into vintage guitars, but have admired Rickenbacker basses for decades. An old high school buddy bought a well used Fireglo 4001 in 1972, and cherished it until he lost it in a house fire a few years back. He survived the fire, but still mourns the loss!
I'm curious to know what the dot inlay material would be on a Model 4000 bass. I've looked at several of the websites, and haven't see this feature described in detail. Reading about the progression of design and materials used in the triangle inlays on the fancier Ricks, I would think a similar evolution might be noted in the dot inlay models. Could be another production year dating tool, no?
I'm in the process of identifying a particular Rickenbacker bass now; details as they emerge!
