Ric Tone controls

Hi all. Proud soon-to-be owner of a new Ric 4003. Reading some literature, it seems that one of the tone pots is a push/pull for a different capacitor . One of the settings (push or pull, I don't know) replicates the old '4001' sound (I had one, didn't know you could improve on that). Just curious. Any info is appreciated. Thanks-Chris

Welcome Chris. The switch is to put the .0047uF capacitor inline with the bridge pickup, cutting lower frequencies. The 4001/4005 basses and early 4003 basses had the capacitor in. The later 4003 basses did not. Sometime in 2006 RIC added the switch to give players the choice of in or out. Switch down, no cap, usual 4003 sound. Switch pulled up, cap in, and more of a 4001 tone shaping. Since the pickup windings are different, it is not identical, but gets you closer to the sound.

I did note a difference, and in my mind, an improvement
, when I substituted the magnetic horseshoe pickup for the hi-gain when I had my '08 4003.
