Hi,
I just finished mixing my cover of "You Won't Have to Cry". It's now posted on the Byrds page at http://www.beatbyrd.com
Lots of JB2 360/12 jangle......

you are very good with vocal harmonies, something that 99% of musicians lack, Vocals as in Singing. I listened to most all the songs including "Don't Worry Baby", and I particularly like the "Paperback Writer" vocalizing exercise. Your Byrds singing sounds just like The Byrds did!! Why, even "Helplessly Hoping" by CSN sounds just like them. Are you sure Stephen Stills wasn't singing?

Just a tip: the guitar lead part in "Don't Worry Baby" needs to be a Fender Jaguar with lots of reverb

Thanks for the vote of confidence. As I said on my site, I'm not blessed with a good voice, but I've got range and
versatility (many 'voices'). "Helplessly Hoping" was a throwaway for the two guitarists where I work. They wanted me to
work up a 3 part song that we could rehearse and perform at company functions. It started out as a 'proof of concept'
recording for them. Both of them could only manage singing the lowest part. So much for doing that one!

"Don't Worry Baby" was a very early effort, done before a lot of new equipment. It's a Gibson SG, direct, with the reverb from the Tascam. I now have a 360/6 and a POD xt, so I can get closer to the "Carl" sound. The next song will be "Wendy" by the Beach Boys and should be on the site tomorrow or Tuesday night. I used the 360/6 with a twin reverb amp setting and lots of spring reverb. Not a Fender Jaguar, but closer than DWB. I'm still learning as I go.

I use a JB2 on all nearly all of the Byrds covers. Love it. Thanks again for the encouragement.

Your cover of "She Don't Care About Time" is so close, it's scary -- IMHO, the best of the covers you've put up on your site so far!

Are you using a DAW or going into and mixing on a board?

Hi, Hmm, I'm kind of surprised at your choice for 'best of', but what the heck, I'll take it. Glad you enjoyed it.

I use a Tascam 2488 for all recording. The vocals go through an Art tube preamp, into an analog Tascam mixer, then to the recorder. Everything else goes into the mixer and then the recorder. I don't own a guitar or bass amp, so they all go direct (but through the mixer). Drums are done on a Juno-G synth, one 'key' at a time, which makes drum fills a logistical nightmare. Gee from Studio Z here.....OUTSTANDING cut! Your website is very cool.....you are where I wanna be......great cover recordings....and why not?? Countless classical musicians have been rehashing the classics for 300 years......the Byrds ARE the new classics, and they should be performed, recorded, interpreted.....

Gonna take some time and listen to more on your beatbyrd site.....truly cool

Thanks Gee, or should I have said, "Gee, thanks"? I was a full time, on the road, musician for nearly 10 years (long ago). The only thing I really miss about the 'playing live gigs' life is the response, good or bad, that you get from an audience. So, while I really enjoy doing all the recordings, the real treat for me is when someone happens to find one of my covers and lets me know what they think. Similar to a live gig, it feels a whole lot better ( ) when your audience likes what they hear. You've done some great recorded stuff, so you know exactly what I mean.
