In 1992 we had :-
The Searchers 1962-1992: 30th Anniversary Collection
then in 2003 we had :-
The Searchers 1963-2003: 40th Anniversary Collection

So when will the 50th be celebrated? 2012 or 2013, Just curious. not that it matters much. Either way is pretty close.

For me should be 2013, 50th anniversary of their first single release.

However John will be nearly 72 by then so they may go for 2012.

Not sure they will be a released this time, as a 4CD box set due in September.

Not sure even the most die hard fans will want to buy the hits etc yet again.

Thanks for that Roy, 2013 sounds right to me too.
Would only be tempted to buy the 4 cd set if it had some rarities or new tracks on it.

not got full listing but only one previously unreleased track on it, or stated as previously unreleased, I think it actually appeared on some various artists compilation, possibly only released in Europe.

Several sources (including Wikipedia) state that the band was founded in 1959, so perhaps "technically", the 50th was last year. Still they didn't celebrate it then. I wonder why...

* Tony Jackson: Lead Vocals, Bass

came into being in feb 1962 so I suppose technically it could be 2012

regarding the Cd - wish they would release something from the modern line up. Surely they must have recorded some tracks since hungry hearts in 1988?

...which means that classic line-up only existed for two years. For about the same two years as the following (with Frank Allen instead of Tony Jackson) and less than any of the others. That's interesting — like, the line-up with the shortest period of onstage "life" creates the biggest part of the band's reputation, i.e. turns out to be the most efficient. Pareto principle in action?..

Actually Rob they haven't, they did do a studio recording of Can't Cry Hard Enough with the hope that it would be released, but sadly it wasn't.

The only other studio tracks were two songs recorded for a German Compilation called Tommy's Christams Party Searchers did God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen and their own composition Happiest Christmas Of All.

And amen to that request, Einar!!! One can alway hope!!!! And pray!!! Meanwhile, Roy suggested that we make our own DVD's from the YT clips, which I'm doing, as I don't ever want to lose live clips of my Chris!!

I have managed to accumulate a lot of live clips over two years searching on YT. And what a treasure -- but I am a greedy Searchers fan, and I always want more clips as I know all of them are not on YT.

I like the guitar work on 'Happiest Christmas Of All' - sounds very byrds like
Shame they have not done any more studio recording in all that time. They could do some proper recordings of all the tracks on the live cds that have never had a proper release. Im certain that it would be a certain big seller at their concerts.

Little did they realise at the time that those few years in the spotlight would give them the foundations for a career lasting nearly fifty years!!!
