OK I'm new to this forum so please be gentle

I recently was in my friend's studio http://kbcrecords.com and he let me play his Rickenbacker 360 on a few tunes through my Vox AC30... it was heaven at first hear!

Since then he has suggested that I purchase a Ric 365 OS (which seem to be almost non-existent). I've looked at a bunch of Rics online and on this forum and though the 365 os is most likely out of my price range, the 330's look to be closer in body style to that of the vintage 365 OS. Am I correct in that?

Also since I'm really more concerned with the sound and action of the Ric I purchase, will the 330 have close to the same sound as the 360 that I played?

The double bound body and triangle inlays vastly improve the sonic qualities of the guitar. . .

365 OS models usually show up when one lacks the requisite cash.

All kidding aside, I believe the models would probably sound about the same, but remember we're talking about 60s, hand-built guitars here, so they'll vary between examples.

Welcome to the addiction! I checked out the studio pics and both the 360-6 and 360-12 shown are new style with hi gain pickups. If you liked the sound of those guitars the good news is that you can buy a current production Rick and get it. And after that initial acquisition you can begin "completing" your collection, There's no shame in saving a few $$$ and getting the 330 (you can look for the vintage 360 while enjoying the 330 jangle).

New ones are good, but they're not even close to tasty vintage ones in sound or feel.

I agree- a new 330 is a fine guitar, but you can acquire a '60s 330 for not a lot more and they are a completely different guitar than their modern counterparts. I'd recommend the vintage one. As for 360 O.S. I'm aware of only a handful out there right now and none less than $8000. A '60s 330 can be had for around $3000-$3500 and sometimes even less.

This link is a '68 fireglo 330 that looks great. If you want a slim neck a '68 is VERY nice and super fast.

I own a 1997 Rose Morris reissue. I've A/B'd it with a new 330, and I like the reissue better myself. That being said, I try to get as close to vintage as possible.

In other words, get a vintage 330 because it's not that much more than a reissue or even a modern one.

I almost bought a Rose Morris re-issue a couple of years ago- they've a very vintage vibe with the 21 frets. The one I was looking was a great player too. It's weird- I bet those re-issues usually go for the same amount a '60s 330 will sell for!
